Icicle chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes

What does an icicle chart show?

An icicle chart starts with the total as a full-width bar and splits it row by row into parts and sub-parts. Widths stay proportional at every level. Use it for spend by team and use case, or any two- or three-level breakdown with long names.

Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.

What is the Icicle component?

It is one <Icicle> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is a total, parts and sub-parts.

Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.

When should I use it?

  • Are there several levels? Yes means the icicle fits.
  • Do the names need room? Yes means the icicle fits.
  • Are levels nested? Yes means the icicle fits.

When does another type fit better?

  • One level. Use Horizontal bars instead.
  • A round shape is fine. Use Sunburst instead.
  • Steps in time, not levels. Use Flame graph instead.

Icicle questions

Installing, data, Figma and plans.

  • Yes. It installs through the shadcn registry with the shadcn CLI, and the file lands in your project.
