Packed bubble chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes

What does a packed bubble chart show?

A packed bubble chart draws each item as a circle sized by its value and packs them together, with colour for a second signal such as up or down. Use it for trading volume, mentions or spend when size and one status matter.

Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.

What is the Packed bubbles component?

It is one <PackedBubbles> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is a size value and a % change per item.

Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.

When should I use it?

  • Is a rough size enough? Yes means the packed bubbles fit.
  • Is there a second signal? Yes means the packed bubbles fit.
  • Are the items independent? Yes means the packed bubbles fit.

When does another type fit better?

  • Exact values matter. Use Horizontal bars instead.
  • Size only, in groups. Use Treemap instead.
  • Items with links between them. Use Network instead.

Packed bubble questions

Installing, data, Figma and plans.

  • Yes. It installs through the shadcn registry with the shadcn CLI, and the file lands in your project.
