Bump chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes

What does a bump chart show?

A bump chart shows the rank of each item over time instead of its value. Lines cross when items swap places, so you see who moved up, who fell back and how long a lead lasted. Use it for leaderboards, market share ranks and search positions.

Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.

What is the Bump component?

It is one <Bump> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is items with a rank per period.

Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.

When should I use it?

  • Is the rank enough without the values? Yes means the bump fits.
  • Do the ranks change over time? Yes means the bump fits.
  • Are there more than two periods? Yes means the bump fits.

When does another type fit better?

  • Ranks hide how far ahead the leader is. Use Multi-line chart instead.
  • A ranking without time. Use Horizontal bars instead.
  • Start and end are enough. Use Slope chart instead.

Bump chart questions

Installing, data, Figma and plans.
