Diverging bar chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes

What does a diverging bar chart show?

A diverging bar chart draws positive values up and negative values down from one zero line, so gains and losses per period read at once. Use it for inflow and outflow, net change and anything with two directions.

Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.

What is the Diverging bars component?

It is one <DivergingBars> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is a positive and a negative value per period.

Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.

When should I use it?

  • Do values go both ways? Yes means the diverging bars fit.
  • Is each period its own amount? Yes means the diverging bars fit.
  • Does the size matter, not only the sign? Yes means the diverging bars fit.

When does another type fit better?

  • All values are positive. Use Bars instead.
  • Steps from one total to another. Use Waterfall instead.
  • Only the sign over many periods. Use Funding stripes instead.

Diverging bar questions

Installing, data, Figma and plans.
