Rate dot plot: a React and Figma chart in four sizes
What does a rate dot plot show?
A rate dot plot puts one dot per person's forecast in each year, with the median marked, so agreement and spread show at once. Use it for rate projections, forecasts from a panel or any group estimate over a few periods.
Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.
What is the Rate dot plot component?
It is one <RateDotPlot> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is one estimate per member per period.
Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.
When should I use it?
- Are there many estimates per period? Yes means the rate dot plot fits.
- Is the median needed? Yes means the rate dot plot fits.
- Are the periods few? Yes means the rate dot plot fits.
When does another type fit better?
- One forecast with a range. Use Forecast band instead.
- Plain spread. Use Box plot instead.
- Continuous time. Use Multi-line chart instead.
