Add the chart
One command adds the Polar area component to your project.
npx shadcn add @chartory/polar-area - 3
Use it
Pass your rows. The props are the Figma properties.
usage.tsximport { PolarArea } from "@/components/chartory/polar-area"<PolarArea data={signupsByChannel} size="m"/>
Props
<PolarArea>
Every prop but data is a Figma property with the same name and values.
PolarAreaData
The data prop: one object for the whole chart.
PolarAreaItem
One object per entry in items.
The data as a JSON Schema: schemas/polar-area.json
Polar area chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes
What does a polar area chart show?
A polar area chart gives each part an equal wedge and stretches it out by its value, so big and small parts show as long and short petals. Use it for channels or categories when the shape of the mix matters more than exact shares.
Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.
What is the Polar area component?
It is one <PolarArea> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is four to eight parts with a value.
Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.
When should I use it?
- Is the shape more important than exact shares? Yes means the polar area fits.
- Are there four to eight parts? Yes means the polar area fits.
- Is it one moment? Yes means the polar area fits.
When does another type fit better?
- Exact shares matter. Use Donut instead.
- Many parts. Use Treemap instead.
- The mix over a year. Use Streamgraph instead.
