Dot strip chart: a React and Figma chart in four sizes
What does a dot strip chart show?
A dot strip chart draws every value of each item as a dot on its strip, all on one scale, with the lowest and highest value labelled, so fast and slow items line up. Use it for payout times, delivery times or any spread of values per option.
Chartory ships it as a Figma component and a React component with the same name. The code installs from the shadcn registry with one command and lands in your project as a file you own.
What is the Dot strip component?
It is one <DotStrip> component. Its props are the Figma properties with the same names and values, and the props table above lists them. The data is every value per item.
Sizes XS, S, M and L re-lay the chart out from the data instead of scaling it, so labels stay readable at every size.
When should I use it?
- Are a few values per item enough? Yes means the dot strip fits.
- Is it items, not a schedule? Yes means the dot strip fits.
- Is there no confidence interval? Yes means the dot strip fits.
When does another type fit better?
- A summary of many values. Use Box plot instead.
- Windows in a day. Use Floating range bars instead.
- Estimates with intervals. Use Dot plot with intervals instead.
