Streamgraph
How the mix shifts through the year.
Definition · Updated Nov 2, 2026
A streamgraph stacks several series around a centre line, so the total and each part's share flow as one shape. Thick and thin stretches show when each part grows or fades. Use it for a mix over a season, such as shipment modes or traffic sources.

Sample data: shipments by four modes, January to December, October at 47K
- Data shape
- Three to six parts, one value per period
- Good for

- Avoid when
- Readers need exact values per part
- Sizes
- XS, S, M and L, re-laid out from the data

When to use
The mix, flowing.
Three signs it fits, and three signs another type fits better.
Do the parts add up to a whole?
Each series is its own level.
Yes: Keep the streamgraph
Is the shape more important than exact values?
Exact values per period matter.
Yes: Keep the streamgraph
Code and Figma
One name in Figma and in code.
Every Figma property is a prop with the same name and values. One command installs it.

hello@usechartory.comCentring spreads the wobble over both edges, so no single layer looks bent by the ones below it. The thickness of a layer is its value; its position is not.
Inside each layer, with its name and share (Road 46%), when the layer is thick enough. Thin layers, such as Air in the sample, stay unlabelled.
One data object in the sample’s shape: three to six parts, one value per period. The docs page lists every field and links its JSON Schema; the sample data comes with the component, so you can start from it and swap in your own.
Series take the preset’s data colours in order, and states such as up, down or warning take its status colours. Change the preset in Figma or in code to recolour every chart at once.
XS, S, M and L, in light and dark. Each size is laid out again from the data, so text and lines keep their size.
Yes. It plays in when it scrolls into view, and when the data changes every mark moves from its old place to its new one. With reduced motion on, it does not move.
Yes. The React component is free in the public registry in Hearth, no token needed; Signal comes with Code and Complete. The Figma component comes with Figma and Complete.
Ask for it by name. The MCP server tells the agent what data it needs and runs the same command: npx shadcn add @chartory/streamgraph. You review the diff.
