Area chart

A trend with weight under it.

Definition · Updated Nov 2, 2026

An area chart is a line chart with the space below it filled, so the trend also reads as an amount. The fill fades toward the axis and keeps the line in front. Use it for prices, balances and volumes where the level matters as much as the direction.

FAQ

Area chart questions.

What people ask before they put an area in a dashboard.

Something else?

hello@usechartory.com
  • No. For prices the axis fits the range, as in the sample (3.2K to 3.5K), so the sample's 6 % rise (3,211 to 3,412) is visible. The fill then shows the level within that range, not the full amount from zero.
