Lorenz curve

How evenly something is shared.

Definition · Updated Nov 2, 2026

A Lorenz curve plots the share of a total held by the smallest holders up to the largest, against a line of equal shares. The further the curve bows away, the more uneven it is. Use it for stake, revenue by customer or wealth.

When to use

How concentrated is it?

Three signs it fits, and three signs another type fits better.

Is it how evenly a total is shared?

How well a model ranks.

Yes: Keep the lorenz curve

Are there many holders?

A few holders' shares.

Yes: Keep the lorenz curve

Is one moment enough?

Concentration over time.

Something else?

hello@usechartory.com
  • Equal stake: every holder with the same share. The gap between it and the stake curve is the inequality. The legend names both.
